Every year the central valley of California experiences very high temperatures during the summer months. This often results in heat stress amongst dairy cows, with one of the biggest results being a reduction in milk production. We’ve recently completed trials at three commercial farms to determine the impact of feeding Galaxis Frontier to lactating dairy cows during periods of extreme heat.
The results found that the cows either:
1. Experienced heat stress but did not drop as intensely as the corresponding control group
2. Showed evidence of recovering faster from the heat stress incidence as temperatures
began to drop below 100F
3. Did not show evidence of heat stress at all
Temperature data collected from Merced County airport station (March 1, 2024 – August 2, 2024)
· Trial 1:
Cows in Galaxis Frontier pens produced +1.6 lbs more milk during heat stress compared to the control group.
· Trial 2:
Cows in Galaxis Frontier pens produced +2.6 lbs more milk during heat stress compared to the control group.
· Trial 3:
Cows in Galaxis Frontier pens produced +2.4 lbs more milk during heat stress compared to the control group.
